SOLUTION: The retardation film has an optical anisotropic layer formed of a liquid crystal composition which contains at least each one kind of: discotic liquid crystal compound; boronic acid compound expressed by general formula (I); and copolymer containing a repeating unit derived from a fluoroaliphatic group-containing monomer and a repeating unit having a prescribed hydrophilic group, or a fluorine-based compound having a prescribed hydrophilic group. Molecules of the discotic liquid crystal compound are substantially vertically aligned in the optical anisotropic layer.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating type optical compensation sheet which has superior optical compensation capability and has superior adherence between an optical anisotropic layer and an alignment layer. SOLUTION: The optical compensation sheet has a transparent base, the alignment layer, formed by coating the transparent base with a solution having solvent composition of ≥20% water and drying it, and the optical anisotropic layer formed, on the surface of the alignment layer, of a composition, containing at least one kind of liquid crystalline compound having at least one polymerizable group and at least one kind of amphipathic compound having at least one polymerizable group. The front retardation (Re) of the optical anisotropic layer is not 0, and the retardation value measured by making light with a λ nm wavelength incident at +40° with respect to the normal direction of the optical compensation sheet about a lagging axis in a plane as a tilt axis (axis of rotation) and a retardation value, measured by making light with a λ nm wavelength incident at -40° with respect to the normal direction of the compensation sheet, as well, are substantially equal to each other.
