SOLUTION: The optical film is formed by forming at least one functional layer, by direct application of the coating solution onto a transparent support and drying the same, wherein unevenness in the thickness of the transparent support is not greater than ±5% from the average thickness, and an unevenness in amount of surface plasticizer on the transparent support on the functional layer side thereof is not greater than ±20% from the average amount of surface plasticizer. The antireflection film uses the light diffusing film. The polarizing plate uses one of the films, and an image display device is equipped with the antireflection film or the polarizing plate.
