摘要： PURPOSE:To produce a quartz waveguide type optical part using a quartz glass thin film having a large film thickness as a waveguide according to a sol-gel method. CONSTITUTION:The method for producing a quartz waveguide type optical part is to control a temperature in heat-treating a coating layer formed by coating a sol substance which is a precursor of fine glass particles in an oxygen atmosphere to that causing no internal stress in the coating layer in repeating the operation to coat the sol substance and then heat-treat the coating layer in an oxygen atmosphere, thereby laminating a glass thin film on a substrate and producing the quartz waveguide type optical part. The thickness of the coating layer in at least the first coating of the sol is reduced from that of the coating layer thereafter in a site having a stepped part.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide the process for production of the quartz waveguide type optical parts which are small in propagation loss of the waveguides. CONSTITUTION:This process for production of the quartz waveguide type optical parts consists of once subjecting a waveguide core to a heat treatment at a temp. above its softening point prior to the formation of an upper clad at the time of producing the quartz waveguide type optical parts by embedding a waveguide core formed constituting a level difference on the lower clad into the upper clad. This process is particularly effective at the time of being adopted for forming the flash type waveguide by applying a sol-gel method.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide an integration optical multiplexer/demultiplexer which can be manufactured simply. CONSTITUTION:The integrated optical multiplexer/demultiplexer constitutes a characteristic feature of a fact that plural pieces of asymmetrical directional couplers arranged along the longitudinal direction of one piece of channel optical waveguide 10 are formed by placing adjacently plural pieces of channel optical waveguides 11-110 whose propagation constants are different from each other along the longitudinal direction of said one piece of channel optical waveguide 10, and in all coupling parts A1-A10 of plural pieces of asymmetrical directional couplers, reflection type diffraction gratings B1-B10 in which the grating period is constant, and also, the direction of a periodical variation of the grating is parallel to the propagation direction of light propagated through one piece of channel optical waveguide 10 are provided. In such a way, reverse directional coupling can be executed. Since the grating period of the reflection type diffraction grating is constant in all the coupling parts, said reflection type diffraction gratings can be curved and provided simultaneously by a single work, and the optical multiplexer/demultiplexer can be manufactured in a very simply way.
