    • PURPOSE:To enable the prevention of reflection without connection loss by polishing obliquely the end face of an optical fiber connector except the half or less of the ferrule end face. CONSTITUTION:The ferrule 6 of an optical fiber connector consists of an optical fiber cable 7 and an optical fiber positioning key 9 and its end 10 is polished together with an optical fiber 8 except the half or less of the surface 11 at a right angle to the optical axis obliquely at an angle theta. The central axis 12 of the polished surface is rotated by alpha deg. relatively to the key 9. Since the gap G of the fiber 8 is obliquely polished except the plane at the ferrule end, the gap can be made smaller than in the prior art wherein the ferrule end is sloped over the entire surface. The connection loss of light at the gap G is thus decreased. It is possible to evaluate the gap-component of the optical fiber due to the finishing by polishing by measuring the distance from the center of the fiber up to the ridgeline where the slope and the end face intersect and the angular deviation of both faces.

    • PURPOSE:To make plugging-in easy and to improve safety against the oscillation at the time of transport, by making a rackside connector freely and loosely movable only in the time of plugging-in. The connector 3 is thus fixed to the rack 1 by means of the spring 11 in the stage of transporting the rack 1 without coupling the connectors 3, 4, whereby the safety against the oscillation at the transport is improved.

Besides, caulking is performed only by a specific claw at the time of assembly, and the characteristic of the element is checked in the state. If defective, the claw part is opened by utilizing the gap between the bush and the claw part, thereby exchanging the element.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive optical semiconductor module by using a heat-shrinkable tubing to form a lens and a ferrule arraying sleeve into one body. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor module is composed of an optical semiconductor element 10, a spherical lens 11, a housing 12, a ferrule arraying sleeve 13, a holding screw 14 and a position control screw 15 for element 10. The lens 11 is held between tools 20 and 21, and a heat-shrinkable tubing 22 is put over the lens 11 and heated. Thus the tubing 22 shrinks to adhere to the lens 11 and the tool 21. Then the tools 20 and 21 are removed, and a ferrule arraying sleeve 23 holding the lens 11 is obtained. The cost is reduced since the sleeve 13 is simply formed with the tube 22.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce optical coupling loss and cost and to facilitate fitting to an optical fiber by forming a recessed part for an adhesive overflow at the pivotally supporting part of the opposing end surfaces of a ferrule and preventing adhesive from sticking to the end surface of an optical fiber element wire. CONSTITUTION:The recessed groove 15 is formed in the end surface of the ferrule 3. The end surface 2' of the optical fiber element wire 2 crosses the axial center and a specular surface. When the fiber 1 is inserted into the axial hole of the ferrule 3, its end surface is 10-50mum deeper than the end surface 6. Their outer circumferential surfaces are coated with adhesive (exposy resin) 7 which has good transparency and a refractive index close to that of the core and both are fixed together. A part of the adhesive in pores 5 is forced out toward the side of the end surface 6 by the end surface 2' through the sliding motion of the element wire 2 to stick to the end 2' partially, but the majority of them sticks to the bottom surface of the recessed groove 15 and solidified. Further, an elastic solid filter 16 such as epoxy resin is provided to the recessed groove 15 at the circumferential edge. Therefore, the end surface 2' never strikes the opposing end surface 2'.
