The hook 17d and the rotary drum 2 are driven by first and second drive means, and the guides 16, 17 are moved in the direction of receding from the drum 2, and the drum 2 is moved in the direction shown by a broken line. Thus, the winding angle of the vapor deposited tape 1 to the drum 2 is reduced to that from a usual position to high speed search and high speed reproduction, and the occurrence of the read error in the data is reduced, and the deterioration and the running unstability in the tape 1 are suppressed.

CONSTITUTION:A groove 2 is formed at the back rather than the center of the slider rail 1 on the slider rail 1. When speed (the peripheral speed of the medium) is increased, the quantity of air flowing into a tapered part 4 is increased, and maximum floating pressure is increased near a boundary between the tapered part 4 and the slider rail 1. Since the groove 2 formed at the rear part of the slider rail 1 increases a side flow effect, however, the floating pressure just before a rear end position is not almost changed. Thus, the fluctuation of the minimum floating amount to the peripheral speed of the medium is almost eliminated.
