    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphoric-acid type fuel cell generating system which can be operated efficiently by preventing an excessive temperature rise of a cell-stack with precision, and avoiding an emergency stop resulting from false signals. SOLUTION: A temperature sensor 2 is placed on the cooling plate 20 of a cell-stack 1 comprising unit cells 10 laid one on another, and temperature measurement signals of the temperature sensor 2 are fed to a temperature monitoring device 3A having a comparison operation circuit 4 and a timer 5. The temperature measurement signal is compared with standard values A and B, and if it exceeds the standard value A continuously over a predetermined time set by the timer 5, e.g., 10 [s], an alarm signal is output to issue an alarm ; if the signal exceeds the standard value B continuously over a predetermined time set by the timer 5, e.g., 10[s], an emergency stop signal is output to cause the emergency stop of system operation.

    • PURPOSE:To make a fuel cell cell stack compact and lightweight and to make a clamping plate compact and lightweight by installing tie rods which vertically pass through their respective manifolds. CONSTITUTION:A matrix 12 in which, for example, phosphoric acid serving as an electrolyte is impregnated is interposed between a pair of fuel electrode 11 and oxidizing electrode 13 each having a reaction gas passage, and fuel gas from one side and oxidizing agent gas from the other side are supplied to the electrodes 11, 13, and electrical energy produced by electrochemical reaction is taken out from the electrodes. When each manifold 2 is fitted to the side of each clamping plate 4 of a cell stack 7, each fitting 24 is fitted to each clamping plate 4 with a bolt 27, and the manifold 2 is press-fitted to the sealing surface of the stack 7 through a sealing material 9. Upper and lower clamping plates 4 are press-clamped with belleville springs 5 through tie rods 3 which passes vertically through the manifolds 2.

    • PURPOSE:To maintain proper operating temp. and operate a fuel battery with high efficiency by furnishing a coolant heater using a fuel battery as power supply, wherein the battery is installed in the cooling system, and a control part for operating the heater in the low-load operating range of battery. CONSTITUTION:In the high-load operating range of the battery body 1, the degree of opening of a damper 8 is adjusted on the basis of output from a temp. sensor 15 so as to maintain proper operating temp. When a drop of battery load sinks the temp. of the body 1 and the sensor 15 senses that the temp. is below the set level, a damper 6 is shut upon command from a control part 14, to shut off the external air supply to the cooling system 5. Now fuel battery operates a coolant heater 13, and the heater output is controlled on the basis of difference from the set temp. value and the rate of temp. change. By heater heating, on the other hand, temp. rise of the cooling air and the amount of heat emission by the battery itself apply in synergetic effect, and the body 1 is prevented from excessive temp. drop even in the low-load operating range of the battery to ensure maintenance of proper temp., which allows the battery to be operated with high output characteristic. When a specified temp. is exceeded, the heater 13 is stopped and damper is opened, and transfer is made to operating temp. adjustment in the cooling system 5.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temperature control method stably controlling a temperature of a cell layered product even in the case of large changing of a load of a fuel cell. SOLUTION: In providing of a cooling system cooling a cell layered product 1 by supplying cooling water from a cooling water supply pipe 11 guided from a liquid layer part of a steam separator 5 to a cooling pipe 4 buried in a cooling plate of the cell layered product 1 laminating a cell 2, a temperature sensor is set up in a cooling water supply pipe 11, a temperature of cooling water is measured by a temperature gage 7A, from a control circuit 10A receiving this detection signal, a control signal is fed to a pressure regulating device comprising a pressure gage 8 and a pressure regulating valve 9, a pressure of the steam separator 5 is adjusted, a temperature of cooling water is controlled, so as to hold a temperature of the cell layered product 1 in a prescribed temperature range in accodance with changing of a load.
