      SOLUTION: The vertical shaft type pump 10 comprises the impeller is rotated by a vertical rotary shaft 21; the suction pipe 31 arranged at the upstream side of the impeller 20 and has an annular air chamber 50; and an air pipe 60 with one end connected to the air chamber 50 and the other end open at a part higher than the maximum water level HWL in a water tank 1. The air chamber 50 is connected to the inside of the suction pipe 31 by an inlet 51a, air is sucked into the suction pipe 31 via an air pipe 60 and the inlet 51a according to a decrease in pressure inside the suction pipe 31, and further a turning prevention board 70 for preventing the turning of water by the impeller 20 is provided.
