    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of operating an inverter enabling improved efficiency and an inverter for performing the method. SOLUTION: To convert direct current voltages +U_ZL and -U_ZL of a solar generator G to an alternating current voltage U_Netz to be supplied to a power supply N, an inverter includes a step-up circuit H, an intermediate circuit Z, and a step-down circuit T. The step-up circuit H boosts the direct current voltages +U_ZL and -U_ZL when the direct current voltages +U_ZL and -U_ZL are smaller than a peak-to-peak maximum value of the power supply voltage U_Netz. The step-down circuit T steps down intermediate circuit voltages +U_ZH and -U_ZH to the voltage U_Netz that is lower than the voltage actually required by the power supply N. The step-up circuit H dynamically boosts the direct current voltages +U_ZL and -U_ZL to a value actually required by the power supply N, and temporarily provides a voltage curve that is almost a sine wave in relation to the intermediate circuit voltages +U_ZH and -U_ZH.
