The output signal generation unit compares the light-receiving signal with: a first threshold Lthat is a lower limit value of a light-receiving signal level for detecting an oil film; and a second threshold Lthat is a lower limit value of a light-receiving signal level of erroneous detection causing light. The output signal generation unit generates an oil film detection signal for detecting the presence or absence of the oil film when the light-receiving signal is in a range equivalent to or greater than the first threshold but less than the second threshold; however, it does not generate the oil film detection signal when the light-receiving signal is less than the first threshold or is equivalent to or greater than the second threshold. Accordingly, the oil film detector prevents reflected light or disturbance light from objects other than the oil film from being erroneously detected as the reflected light by the oil film.
