    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection valve which reduces changes of fuel injection characteristics when it is mounted on an engine. SOLUTION: An end 54 of a housing member 50, which forms a magnetic circuit on the side opposite to a holder, is not secured on a cylindrical member 11, so that the end 54 of the housing member 50 can be reciprocatingly moved relatively in the axial direction of the cylindrical member 11. Accordingly, when an injector 10 is mounted on the engine, even if the axial load acts on the housing member 50, deformation of the housing member 50 caused by the load is not transmitted to the cylindrical member 11. Consequently, before and after mounting the injector 10 on the engine, a change in distance between a fixed core 43 and a movable core 44 is reduced. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the changes of the fuel injection characteristics of the injector 10. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine capable of enhancing the sealing property of a combustion gas without increasing the pressure resistance assuring performance of a sealing member and provide a fuel injector used for it. SOLUTION: A through hole 21 for installing an injector 50 is formed in a cylinder head 20 connected to a cylinder block having a combustion chamber 2 formed. A space part 60 is formed between the cylinder head 20 and the injector 50. The inside of the space part 60 is so pressurized as to be set at half of the maximum pressure of the combustion chamber 2 by utilizing the difference of outside diameters between a flange part 52 and a nozzle part 54 when the injector 50 is mounted to the through hole 21. Accordingly, the first sealing member 55 is pushed in toward the combustion chamber, so that the intrusion of the combustion gas from the sealing part of the first sealing member 55 is prevented even if the pressure of the combustion chamber 2 is increased and the pressure resistance assuring performance of the first sealing member 55 does not need to be increased.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injector capable of preventing the degradation of swirling force of a fuel and of facilitating the atomization of the fuel without increasing the number of swirl holes. SOLUTION: The fuel having flown in a swirl chamber 42 from the swirl holes 43 formed in a swirler 40 swirls in the swirl chamber 42 and forms a swirl. The fuel having flown in the swirl chamber 42 swirls around the neck part 56 of a valve needle 50. Since the outside diameter of the neck part 56 is formed smaller than those of a second cylinder part 54 and a valve head part 57, the fuel having flown in the swirl chamber 42 swirls around the neck part 56 without colliding with the circumferential part of the valve needle 50. Accordingly, the generation of a swirling component in the direction opposite to the primary one due to the collision of the fuel with the circumferential part of the valve needle 50 is prevented, so that the degradation of the swirling force of the fuel is prevented. The number of the swirl holes 43 does not need to be increased in conjunction with the reduction of diameters of the swirl holes 43.
