    • PURPOSE:To achieve an energy-saving and reduce a casing thickness for improving an air distribution pattern as required from the viewpoint of living comfortability, by arranging such that a preferred ceiling suspension type air conditioner has a casing adapted to concentrically drawing an air through all side faces thereof and then to blow the air out of the front central portion thereof. CONSTITUTION:In a casing 1, there are arranged an air heat exchanger 2 opposing against an air intake port 4 defined around the entire periphery of side faces of casing 1 and a concentrical fan 3 opposed against an air outlet port 5 defined at the central portion of casing 1. This arrangement can reduce the number of steps in the air heat exchanger 2 and constitute the concentrical fan 3 in a flat configuration of large outer diameter, whereby reducing the casing thickness. On the other hand, a smooth flow passage and the greater effect of static pressure increase as brought about by the installation of static blade serve to provide a desired air blowing capacity at a slow r.p.m. and damp an operating noise. When installed as a ceiling suspension type, the air condition can be positioned at the center of room and requires slower air speed to be blown out of an air outlet 5, which leads to a lesser requirement of power. Moreover, because the air is blown downwardly, it is made possible to unify the distribution pattern of hot air stream at the time of heating operation.

    • PURPOSE: To enable to obtain the most suitable blowoff air at the time of heating operation and cooling operation, by making use of a flow pattern peculiar to a centripetal fan.
      CONSTITUTION: A centripetal fan 3 for making a central part of an air heat exchanger 2 provided on an external circumferential part of an air conditioner perform a slanting inward centripetal flow and a forward outflow is mounted, in an air conditioner. In addition to the above, a duct 10 is formed by two casing side paltes 8, 9 facing to each other by placing the heat exchanger 2 between them. Temperatures of a coolant to the heat exchanger are controlled respectively so as to enable to heat indoor air at the time of heating operation and to cool the indoor air lower than the dew point at the time of cooling operation. With this construction, the titled control method is so constituted that blowoff air is made to flow out in the axial direction (f') at the time of the heating operation and the blowoff air isturned into a slanting outward (f) diffused outflow at the time of the cooling operation. The most suitable blowoff air at the time of the heating operation and the cooling operation is obtained by making use of flow pattern peculiar to the centripetal fan in this manner.

CONSTITUTION:On the rear edge 7 side of a fan for an impeller 3, a disc-shaped end plate 11, with the diameter larger than that of a hub 1, is provided on the same axis and tightly adhering to the fan rear edge 7 in such a manner as it blocks the hub side area 8 including the outer peripheral part of the hub 1 of the fan rear edge 7. Thus, even in case resistance in the machine is high, the mere existence of a weak circulatory aireddy (gamma), like a dead water area, inside the fan 2 in front of the end plate 11, extremely weakens a counter flow aireddy in the tip side area 10 of the front edge 9 of the fan. There is no occurence of a vibration as observed in the past, and an operational sound is largely reduced, while efficiency of the static pressure is improved. Further, reduction of the operational sound is excellently performed within the limits of a condition where the outside diameter Dt of the impeller and the diameter Dh of the hub satisfy the formula 0.22

Next, this compressed air is led into a housing 2 of a vortex compression pump V1 and also compressed by blades 32, 33 of an impeller 3 as doing spiral motion. The air is further compressed by another vortex compression pump V2 and then it is discharged in the atmosphere from an outflow port 19d. During this compression operation, since the pump V1 at the side of the inflow port 10a is approximate to a vacuum in the vacuum chamber as compared with the pump V2 at the outflow side, its pressure is low so that a boundary layer on a surface of the blade 32 becomes thickened. Accordingly, a front edge of the blade 32 of the pump V1 at the side of the inflow port 10a is formed into a sharp form, a passage sectional area between blades 32 is widened, and a compression ratio is enhanced in maling the air so as to be sufficiently passed through, therefore the boundary layer becomes thinned at the pump V2, while a front edge of the blade 33 is formed into an obtuse form, thereby reducing the extent of inflow pressure loss.

Then, the fluid gets angular motion energy by blades 35, 36 and flows in the axial direction of the main passage as being rotated, then it is compressed by this spiral motion, and discharged to the out side of a housing 2 from a discharge port 62. During spiral motion of this fluid, a boundary layer is generated at the backside of the blade 36 of the second cascade 34. But a clearance flow is blown off to the backside of the blade 36 from a slat 8 between the first cascade 33 and the second cascade 34, break ing the said boundary layer. Therefore spacing between blades 35 and 36 is amply securable, and since any slip of the fluid due to the boundary layer is preventable, driving efficiency for compression performance or the like is well improved.
