    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ballast water treatment method and a ballast water treatment apparatus which can reduce energy required for heating and of rationalizing space for a treatment apparatus, in the treatment of minute living organisms by way of heating ballast water. SOLUTION: In the ballast water treatment method, a low-temperature ballast water discharged from a low-temperature ballast tank 2a is supplied to a minute-living-organisms treatment means 2b that performs heat treatment of minute living organisms contained in the ballast water, then a high-temperature ballast water is supplied to the minute-living-organisms treatment means 2b from a high-temperature ballast tank 2c so that minute-living-organisms are subjected to a treatment of minute-living-organisms at a prescribed temperature. In the method, the ballast water after treatment of minute-living-organisms is subjected to heat recovery process for serving the temperature raise of the low-temperature ballast water before heat-treatment.
