    • PURPOSE:To mark on a steel strip more easily and more precisely in a magnetic detecting method, in a milling machine which is used to perform the finishing cut to the edges of the steel strip used for an electric alloy seamed steel pipe. CONSTITUTION:In case a steel strip W waves breadthways, a marking device 13 moves with the waviness. An immovable mark detector 15 which is fixed to a beam 14, is brought down onto the center of the upper surface of the steel strip W, by an up-and-down cylinder 18 which moves with the marking device 13. Then, the mark detector 15 detects the free movement of the rotating endless rubber magnet tape 25 caused by the waviness of the steel strip W, and moves with heads H, H' of a milling machine main body M through a controller (not shown in the figure). Cutters C, C' maintain an interval of the preset width W and perform the finishing cut to the edges E, E' of the steel strip W precisely, at the positions which are equally distant from the center.

When the grinding work and carrying-out of the steel plate P which is attracted by exciting the magnet 30 are completed, the excitation for the magnet 30 is cut-off, and the magnet 30 is lowered, overwhelming the rising force of the magnet 30, and the transfer table 5 is retreated free from the contact of the magnet 30 with the steel plate. Therefore, the steel plate can be mounted and demounted from the transfer table, and the loss time for the fixation and release on transfer can be economized. Further, the accuracy can be improved by the straight guide of the transfer table 5 in the combination of a guide roller and a table guide as a transportation and guide means.

To lift a material 1 by defining the material tip part on the non-cutting side as an almost supporting point by rotation of the feed vice 6 to the transferring location, the axis 80 of the rotary shaft 51 of the feed vice 6 is inclined to an axis 82 parallel to a path line 7 of the material 1. The feed vice 6 lifts the half weight part of the material 1 in cantilever and does without lifting the material tip part on the non-cutting side.
