The transformed image data is compared with display image data denoting an image displayed on a monitor to extract an attached area at the outside of a visual field of the camera and the attached area is composited with a transformed image to generate a peripheral image for updating display on the monitor (S110-S150). The drawing area of the peripheral image and the image drawing position to display its own vehicle are set depending on the size of the attached area, as the size of the attached area is smaller, the area to display a real time image (conversion image) from the camera is extended, and conversely the area to display the image of the area at the outside of the visual field (attached area) is reduced (S160-S170).
