SOLUTION: A colored layer containing a pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole derivative obtained by converting at least one of ketopyrrole groups in a pyrrolo[3,4- c]pyrrole of formula I to one of groups of formulae II is formed as a colored pixel on a transparent substrate to obtain the objective color filter. In the formula I, A and B are mutually separate specified groups and D and E are mutually separate specified groups. In the formulae II, A may be B, when A is B, D is E, and R' is a 1-5C alkyl. The lowering of the transmittance of the color filter due to the scattering of light is suppressed, the transparency of the colored pixel is enhanced and a pigment obtained from the coloring material is excellent in display quality.

The transformation of the ingredient A to the insoluble pigment is preferably carried out by a chemical means, a thermal means, a photolysis, an irradiation inducing means or the like. As the insoluble pigment, it is preferable to have a polar group such as a primary amine, a secondary amine, a cyclic amine, hydroxy group or the like.
