An image carrier rotation control unit 43 controls a peripheral speed of the photosensitive drum 1M in a rotation direction of the intermediate transfer belt 9 to align the electrostatic image scale 21M on the photosensitive drum 1M with the magnetic scale 24 on a carrying body so that the pattern image 36 is transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 9 in a position shifted from the pattern image 35 by a prescribed number of scanning lines when the pattern image 36 is transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 9.
