    • PURPOSE:To form a film layer consisting of TiN and to improve the wear resistance of a gold alloy by bringing the gold alloy into contact with a powder mixture composed of Ti and Al2O3, heating the same in a vacuum atmosphere having a limit value or above, heating the alloy at the temp. in a specific range and subjecting the Ti diffused layer to a nitriding treatment at a specific temp. in a nitrogen atmosphere after formation of said layer. CONSTITUTION:The gold alloy is brought into contact with the powder mixture composed of Ti and Al2O3 and is heated at >=750 deg.C and =10 Torr in order to form the Ti-diffused layer on the surface of the gold alloy to prevent oxidation of the Ti powder. The diffused surface is then subjected to the nitriding treatment at 500-800 deg.C in the nitrogen atmosphere to form a hard titanium nitride (TiN.Ti2N) phase as the film layer on the surface of the gold alloy. The gold alloy layer is hardened to have the highly wear resistant surface by the above-mentioned method without spoiling the color tone and corrosion resistance of the gold alloy.
