SOLUTION: In this developing device, developer (t) with which an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier 100 is developed is stored in a developing container 2, and also a developer carrier 10 is rotatably provided at a position where it is opposed to the image carrier 100 of the container 2, and the developer (t) is transported to a developing part P formed between the image carrier 100 and the developer carrier 10 by using the developer carrier 10. Furthermore, developer carrying members 4 and 6 are provided in the container 2, and the developer (t) is stirred and circulated by the carrying members 4 and 6. Then, temperature and humidity in the container 2 are detected by a temperature and humidity detection means 40, and a control means 41 controls the rotating speed of the carrying members 4 and 6 in accordance with the temperature and the humidity detected by the detection means 40, and the height of the developer level is kept at a specified value.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a highlight part form becoming rough, to obtain sufficient image density and to obtain an image having no defect caused due to abnormal discharge by applying appropriate developing bias. SOLUTION: BP bias consisting of a quiescent part and an oscillating part is applied as the developing bias. The force of toner in a flying direction to a photoreceptor drum becomes maximum when the oscillating part is applied and electric field in the flying direction is formed. The amount of the toner adhering to an image part depends on toner speed accelerated by the electric field when the BP bias changes from the oscillating part to the quiescent part. The oscillating part is formed by four pulses. Just after the quiescent part, a voltage of +900V is applied to the potential of the quiescent part for a time T1 as the electric field to return the toner to a developing sleeve, thereafter, -900V is applied for a time T2, and further +900V is applied for the time T1, finally -900V is applied for the time T1 as the electric field in the direction where the toner is made to fly to the photoreceptor drum, then the quiescent part arrives. T1 is set greater than T2.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality color image whose density is constant even when the developing performance of toner and the toner consumption of a toner consumption system are changed caused by environmental fluctuation. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a patch detection ATR (density controller) and a developer reflection ATR as the density controller. By detecting patch density corresponding to the real image density by using the patch detection ATR and comparing it with the initial density of a patch image, density difference is found. Then, the required quantity of toner is calculated. Besides, the required toner quantity is converted to a toner replenishment signal level and the feedback thereof is executed with respect to the developer reflection ATR. By calculating toner concentration by using the developer reflection ATR, a toner replenishment control coefficient α is calculated. Then, real toner replenishment quantity is calculated by multiplying simultaneously calculated toner replenishment quantity by the coefficient α. Then, the toner is replenished so as to control the density of the image.

SOLUTION: The image area rate of an original is calculated based on the video count C1 integrated by a counter 66. The image area rate is obtained by proportional calculation with the solid black video counted number as 100% so as to obtain the toner quantity necessary for the surface of paper. Then, a replenishment system is changed according to the obtained toner quantity (DTOTAL) required in the course of a copying sequence. To put it concretely, replenishment is performed by halving DTOTAL. Thus, the fluctuation of the carrying amount of the developer is restrained, and the pressure of the developer applied to the sensor 7 is kept constant, so that output from the sensor 7 becomes stable.
