    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shot cleaning apparatus and its operation method, in which a flow rate of shots of steel balls is easily variable in response to load change or increase of pressure loss in a GGH (gas-gas heater) without upsizing the apparatus.
      SOLUTION: Dust adhered to heat transfer pipes 5 is removed by scattering shots from a feeder 1 on the pipes 5 which performs heat exchange between the inner fluid and dust-containing gas. Shot circulation in the apparatus is controlled by varying the shot-transfer speed of the feeder 1 by employing a controllable motor, e.g. provided with an inverter. The shots are spontaneously dropped all the time as required from a bypass chute 11 provided in the feeder 1. Further, a specified amount of shots are added all the time from a feeder 10 of a shot tank 9 in the outside of the system to the shot circulation system. In this case, operation is kept in a constant speed (maximum capacity) in the shot-transfer system including a shot-transferring bucket-conveyor 8, a shot distributor 4, a dust separator 6 and a shot discharger 7, etc.
