摘要： PURPOSE:To uniformly hold a cutting face and to prevent a crack and to enhance yield by providing a cutter which is followed to the unevennesses on the surface of glass and vertically moved and cutting glass at high velocity while holding the pressing force of the cutter uniform. CONSTITUTION:The pressing force of a cutter 29 in course of cutting glass 70 is detected at real time by utilizing a strain gauge 34A. A motor 20 is controlled on the basis of this detected signal and thereby the pressing force of the cutter 29 is controlled. Glass 70 is cut by vertically moving the cutter 29 so that the cutter is followed to the unevennesses on the surface of glass 70.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve flatness accuracy of a plate-shaped unit, by grinding it while controlling a cut in amount of a grinding wheel in accordance with changing of a contact area between the plate-shaped unit and the grinding wheel during rotary operation. SOLUTION: A cup type grinding wheel 12 is moved to lower down, to be rotated, also a rotary table 14 is rotated, grinding of a glass plate 16 is started. In accordance with increasing a contact area between this cup type grinding wheel 12 and the glass plate 16, a piezoelectric element 24, 24... is driven so as to increase a cut in amount, in accordance with decreasing the contact area, the piezoelectric element 24, 24... is driven so as to decrease the cut in amount. In this way, even when the contact area (grinding resistance) between the cup type grinding wheel 12 and the glass plate 16 is changed, an actual cut in amount by the cup type grinding wheel 12 is fixed. Accordingly, flatness accuracy of the glass plate 16 can be improved.

However, since tilting of the cup type grinding wheel 12 is always detected by a laser displacement meter 32, 32..., when the cup-type grinding wheel 12 tends to tilt, that is, when the cup-type grinding wheel 12 tends to warp, a piezoelectric element 24, 24... is driven so as to cancel this warping, the warping is impeded. In this way, the cup-type grinding wheel 12, in a condition maintaining an attitude starting grinding, grinds the glass plate 16.

CONSTITUTION:A polishing member support mechanism 32 is constituted of four joint links 34, and the joint links 34 are connected to four corners of a support plate 36 and a grinding plate 10 respectively. Both end sections of the joint links 34 are connected to the support plate 36 and polishing plate 10 via joint members and supported rockably in any direction. Extension lines of the joint links 34 intersect at a virtual center point A on the center axis of the polishing plate 10. The virtual center point A is located slightly below the polishing surface of the polishing plate 10. The pressure distribution of the polishing surface of the polishing plate 10 can be set almost uniformly during grinding. The polishing plate 10 can be released so that the friction resistance applied to the polishing plate 10 is not increased, and the pressure distribution of the polishing surface can be maintained nearly uniform.

Namely, the bite 70 is inclined around the axis 81. Posture control of the bite 70 is performed by controlling the angle of rotation of a rotary mechanism by a stepping motor.
