摘要： PURPOSE:To expand an effective display area by narrowing down part of a sealing material which joins substrates and reinforcing the narrow part with an adhesive for lead member fixation. CONSTITUTION:The sealing material 9 joins the two glass substrates 2 and 3 and the part of the sealing material 9 which is extended to the side of an electrode terminal 7 is formed by coating narrower than another part. Then a lead member 8 is connected to the electrode terminal 7 and then the connection part and the narrow part 9a of the sealing material 9 are coated with the adhesive 12 as a reinforcing material. Thus, the part of the beltlike sealing material 9 is formed narrowly and the narrow part 9a is reinforced with the adhesive 12 for lead member fixation to expand the effective display area of the liquid crystal display element (LCD) by as much as the sealing material is narrowed down.

摘要： PURPOSE:To expand an effective display area by removing part of a sealing material which joins substrate and thus forming an opening part, and covering this opening part with an adhesive for lead member fixation. CONSTITUTION:While an opening part where the sealing material 9 is not present is formed on the side of an electrode terminal 7, the two glass substrates 2 and 3 are stuck together and after a lead member 8 is connected to the electrode terminal 7, the adhesive 13 is applied to the connection position to cover the opening part. Then liquid crystal 4 is charged in the space surrounded with both glass substrates 2 and 3, sealing material 9, and adhesive 13. The beltlike sealing material 9 which joins the two glass substrates 2 and 3 is omitted partially to form the opening part, which is covered with the adhesive 13 for lead member fixation to expand the effective display area by the omission of the sealing material 9.

摘要： PURPOSE:To form a uniform orientation film and to prevent occurrence of disturbance of orientation in the peripheral part of a displayed pattern by constituting a mask layer of a material contg. a dye or a pigment in a resin compsn. which is the same kind as the orientation film. CONSTITUTION:Orientation films 6, 7 are formed by print-coating polyimide resin dried resin dried at low temp. which is the same kinds as a mask layer 5 resin on the inside surface of each of a display substrate 1 and a counter substrate 3 and drying by heating for 20min at 180 deg.C. Then, the display substrate 1 is arranged to face oppositely to the counter substrate 3, and a cell is constructed by laminating both by sealing the peripheral part with a sealing material. Since the mask layer 5 and the orientation film 7 are both constituted of polyimide resin in this liquid crystal display element, the uniform orientation film 7 is formed without causing repulsion of the orientation film 7 by the mask layer 5. By this constitution, generation of disturbance of the orientation of the liquid crystals in the peripheral part of the display pattern is prevented, and sufficiently high display quality is obtd.
