    • PURPOSE:To easily estimate the roughness of the rotary track wheel track surface of a roll bearing in an assembled state or the surface of a rolling body by using an observation vibration signal of one point on a stationary track wheel. CONSTITUTION:While an outer ring 10 is in a stationary state, an inner ring 20 is driven counterclockwise at an angular speed omega1 and two balls alpha and beta revolve at an angular speed omegab. Here, when the balls alpha and beta are at positions (a) and (b) on the track surface of the inner ring 20 at time t1 and there exist flaws with widths fa and fb at the points (a) and (b), the balls alpha and beta rotate respectively about one-ends of the corresponding flaws and collide against the other-ends to generate impulses with amplitudes proportional to the values obtained by raising the width of the flaws to the (6/5)th power. This impulses excite the natural vibrations of the track surface and the sum of them is transmitted to the outer ring 10, so that a vibration signal y(t1) is observed at one observation point 11 on the outer ring 10. Then an unknown impulse is calculated from the relational expression between a measured equivalent driving impulse calculated from the observed vibration signal and the known impulse response of the natural vibration frequency of the track ring and an estimated equivalent driving impulse calculated from coefficient of vibration propagation and the unknown impulse response of the natural vibration frequency of the track ring, thereby enabling an easy estimation of the roughness.
