    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate a value corresponding to a tire longitudinal force with high accuracy even if an actual value of moment of inertia of a wheel varies. SOLUTION: This tire longitudinal force estimation apparatus calculates the estimated value Tfxc of torque equivalent to a tire longitudinal force by adopting an expression "Tfxc=T+α Ic dω/dt" based on the equation of a rotational motion of the wheel. T is wheel torque and dω/dt is wheel angular acceleration, which are obtained by making use of a sensor output. Ic is the calculated value of moment of inertia of the wheel known from the specifications of the wheel. α is a correction coefficient by which the calculated value Ic of moment of inertia corresponds to the actual value of moment of inertia. The time differential value of the actual value Tfx of torque equivalent to tire longitudinal force becomes "0" at the point in time when dω/dt becomes "0" from other than "0" (see time t2), thereby α is obtained from the expression "α=m/(m-n)," where m is the time differential value of T at the same point of time and n is the time differential value of Tfxc at the same point of time.
