    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for dye-sensitized solar batteries which enables the materialization of dye-sensitized solar batteries having high durability and high heat resistance, and especially allows the prevention of elution of a platinum group catalyst from a catalyst electrode in application to dye-sensitized solar batteries.SOLUTION: The electrolyte for dye-sensitized solar batteries comprises chemical species forming a redox pair, an electrolytic solvent for solving them, and an adequate additive agent. The electrolyte contains: (a) a sulphur material having a molecular weight of 32-10,000 and selected from elemental sulphur, and an inorganic sulphur compound including a sulphur atom having an oxidation number of -2 to 0, and an organic sulphur compound including a sulphur atom having an oxidation number of -2 to 0; (b) a sulphur material selected from an inorganic sulphur compound not including a sulphur atom having an oxidation number of -2 to 0, but including a sulphur atom having an oxidation number of +1 to +4, and an organic sulphur compound including a sulphur atom having an oxidation number of +1 to +4, provided that the sulphur material of (b) has, in a binding energy region of 161-165 eV, a photoelectron peak of X-ray photoelectron spectra on the surface of a catalyst electrode subjected to surface treatment; or (c) a mixture of the sulphur materials of (a) and (b).
