    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize small-sized and highly stable cross-phase modulation (XPM) suppression means with increased number of channels. SOLUTION: An optical transmitter on a transmission side has two systems of an optical cross-connect device. A former part of the cross-connect device comprises: wavelength alternate division means for alternately separating a channel of a wavelength multiplex optical signal and dividing the signal into two series of the wavelength multiplex optical signals with channel intervals twice as long as the original wavelength interval; and delay time application means for applying delay time different between the two divided series of wavelength multiplex optical signals. A latter part comprises wavelength alternate multiplexing means for alternately arranging the two series of wavelength multiplex optical signals and multiplexing the arranged signals on a wavelength multiplex optical signal. Letting ΔT as a basic delay time difference, the delay time application means sets ΔT for the delay time difference between wavelength multiplex signals to which the divided optical signals are adjacent.
