    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the space capacity of a merchandise display device and to flatten and slim an automatic vending machine by mounting a translucent merchandise picture sheet on the surface of a surface light source thereby displaying the merchandise. SOLUTION: The automatic vending machine is provided with the merchandise display device 10 on the upper stage of a front surface, a money feeding port 11 on a middle stage and a merchandise take-out port 12 on a lower stage. The device mounts the plane merchandise picture sheet 3 printed with a merchandise picture through a mounting frame 2 to be freely attached and detached on the surface of the surface light source 1. A light source 1 consists of an EL panel (electroluminescence panel). The sheet 3 consists of a translucent plastic sheet forming a light irregular reflection layer on a surface. When the light sour 1 is turned on and illuminating light passes through the sheet 3, is scattered at a nearly 180 deg.C scattered light. Thereby, at the time of turning on the light source 1 at night the, illuminating light of the light source 1 is scattered on the surface of the translucent sheet 3 to recognize the picture of the merchandise to be bright which ever direction it is locked at from.

The n-pieces split electrodes 2 are connected with n-pieces of AC power supplies 10 having phases shifted 1/n cycles and the same amplitude. The n-pieces of AC power supplies 10 are formed by star- connecting low frequency AC power supplies with their frequencies, amplitudes and phases (including wavelengths) controlled by a controller 11, and the whole power supplies have drifting potential kept by an insulating transformer for generating discharge only between the split electrodes 2.
