    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a gas sensor element by which improvement of sensor characteristics and securement of strength of a porous protective layer are achieved by an extremely easy method.SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a gas sensor element, ceramic slurry which is constituted by containing ceramic particles in water is applied to the gas detection tip of the gas sensor element as a ceramic application step, and the ceramic slurry is dried to form a ceramic layer as a first drying step. Then, the ceramic layer is impregnated with binder slurry constituted by containing a binder in water as a binder impregnation step, and the binder slurry is dried to form a ceramic layer in which the binder is contained as a second drying step. After that, heat treatment is performed to the ceramic layer to form the porous protective layer as a heat treatment step.
