    • PURPOSE:To provide a carrier roller and a manufacturing method thereof by which a surface of the carrier roller can be finished in pure white and different friction coefficients can be realized by the same construction material. CONSTITUTION:A central part 72 of a carrier roller 7 is a part having a large friction coefficient, and both side parts 71 and 71 are parts having a small friction coefficient. A radius of the central part 72 is slightly larger than both side parts 71 and 71, and a document sheet 10 is reliably carried by frictional force between them and the central part 72 having large frictional resistance. In an area where the document sheet 10 does not exist, though a surface of the carrier roller 7 and a glass surface of a close contact type image sensor mechanism 9 are come directily into contact with each other, since the surface of the carrier roller 7 in this area is slightly small in a radius besides being the parts 71 having small frictional resistance, the frictional resistance becomes small.
