SOLUTION: In this image engraving method, when a value of pixel data is a maximum or minimum value in a possible value range, a dot control signal is put into an off-state (wherein an amplitude is set at zero) (S118), so that line engraving can be performed depending on the minimum or maximum value. In another case where the value of the pixel data is any one of values between the the minimum and maximum values, other than the minimum and maximum values, the dot control signal with a constant amplitude and predetermined frequencies is superposed (S116), so that dot engraving can be performed depending on the value.       SOLUTION: A frequency-characteristic correcting filter circuit 12 is interposed in a path where an image signal output from an image signal generating circuit 10 is input into an engraving head 18.
