    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper-based sliding material that has improved sliding properties as well as improved productivity, even if it is used under severe conditions under which it is rotated at a high speed in a high-temperature atmosphere. SOLUTION: Regarding the copper-based sliding material comprising of: 15.0 to 25.0 mass% of Zn; 4.2 to 10.0 mass% of Bi; 2.0 to 7.0 mass% of Mn; 1.0 to 3.0 mass% of Si; 0.1 to 2.0 mass% of Sn; and the balance being Cu and unavoidable impurities, and wherein an Mn-Si compound and a Bi-particle phase are dispersed into a single alpha phase matrix, by controlling the mass ratio of Sn to Bi to 0.024 to 0.200, an Sn-containing alpha phase is present between an alpha phase having ductility in the single alpha phase matrix and the Bi-particle phase hardly having ductility, which plays a role of relaxing shear stress by a difference in deformation volme in such a case that external force is applied, relaxes stress concentration generated upon drawing-out in a continuous casting stage, and can prevent the fault of alloy cracking. A copper based alloy for a mold as the second invention further comprises one or more kinds of elements selected from 0.05 to 1.5% Ni, 0.03 to 1.0% Nb and 0.05 to 1.0% Sn in the first invention. A copper based alloy for a mold as the third invention further comprises one or more kinds of elements selected from 0.05 to 1.0% Fe, 0.10 to 1.0% Co, 0.05 to 1.5% Mn, 0.01 to 2.0% Al, 0.01 to 1.0% Mg, 0.01 to 1.5% Si, 0.001 to 1.0% B, 0.01 to 1.0% Be, 0.05 to 1.0% Pb and 0.05 to 1.0% Bi in the first invention.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cast ingot having no significant defect and segregation by generating electromagnetic induction on a casting mold by utilizing a novel construction in electromagnetic stirring casting in a synchronous continuous casting process.
      SOLUTION: In continuous casting using a casting mold, one or a plurality of electromagnetic stirring devices is (are) provided along a casting advance direction of the casting mold. Rotating magnetic fields and feeding or returning direction magnetic fields are applied to a molten metal by magnetic fields generated by the electromagnetic stirring devices. In the electromagnetic stirring device, three or more electromagnets are provided as a set. At least a plurality of sets of electromagnets are provided in a row on a face perpendicular to the casting advance direction. The electromagnetic stirring force by the electromagnetic stirring device is applied so as to fluidize the boundary of solidification of the molten metal. Metals usable for casting include aluminum, aluminum alloys, copper, copper alloys, steels, and iron-base alloys.
