    • PURPOSE:To eliminate a danger of a polishing plate performing a distorted rotation and to bring the polishing plate and the connected end face of an optical fiber into contact with each other at a certain angle at all times, by composing that the polishing plate performs a rotation motion by the combination of the horizontal motion of the polishing plate and the horizontal motion of a slide plate in the direction orthogonal to that of the polishing plate. CONSTITUTION:A polishing plate 14 is made to be slidable by being guide by a slide plate 7 and also the slide plate 7 is composed so as to perform a horizontal motion in the direction orthogonal to the moving direction of the polishing plate 14. The slide plate is therefore slided by the energy component divided in the motional direction orthogonal to the moving direction of the polishing plate 14 of the energy transmitted by a driving transmission shaft 22. The polishing plate 14 and slide plate 17 perform respective horizontal motions in the mutually orthogonal directions by the energy transmitted to the polishing plate 14 and slide plate 7 from a rotating body 19, but the polishing plate 14 performs an apparent rotation motion with both motions being combined.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain the thermal fixing device which is small in size and is low in cost and has good thermal efficiency by providing surface heaters which thermally fix a developer or developing soln. to a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:While paper 4 on which a toner 12 is transferred slides in contact with the surface heater 8b below the same, the paper passes between the upper and lower surface heaters 8a and 8b and the paper 4 and the toner 12 are heated by the upper and lower panel heaters 8a, 8b during the passage thereof. The toner 12 is melted and is fixed to the paper 4, by which the thermal fixing is executed. Since the surface heater 8a does not come into contact with the toner 12 on the paper 4, the generation of a trouble such as spreading of the setting width is obviated. The paper 4 on which the toner 12 is thermally fixed by the thermal fixing device 8 is discharged by discharge rollers 10 to the outside of an image forming device. The points where the temp. rises are, therefore, only the parts of the heaters 8a, 8b having small heat capacities. The thermal fixing device which does not require the warm up time, reduced electric power consumption and is small in size and low in cost is thereby obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To make a highly hard metallic compd. layer having good adhesion on the surface of a tip and to obtain a sintered hard alloy cutting tool having a long life, by growing a thin film on the tip by vacuum deposition, and irradiating an ion beam from an ion source thereby implanting ions to the film. CONSTITUTION:A film forming material is vapor-deposited on a cutting tool as a target (g) from a vapor deposition source. The ions formed in an ion source (a) at the same instant are passed successively through a mass analysis system (b) and an acceleration system (c) and are thus accelerated to the ions having required kinetic energy and mass, whereafter the ions are adjusted to form an ion beam spot of the diameter conforming to the size of the target with a focusing system (d). The spot is deflected with a deflection system (e) and is irradiated to the target. The implanted layer wherein the atoms of the tool (g) and the thin film exist as a mixture is thus formed and if the material of the thin film is suitably selected, the hard layer consisting of the implanted layer differing from the tool forming material is formed.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a capillary chip having large wear resistance and inexpensive cost by composing the chip of a ceramic cylindrical chip body and a ruby chip end secured to the end of the body due to the shrinkage of the body at the sintering time. CONSTITUTION:A chip body 2 is formed of a mixture of a binder and ceramic powder, and has a wiring inserting hole 6 and a chip end engaging recess 14. A chip end 4 is made of ruby, has a wiring inserting hole 9 and is engaged with the recess 14 of the body 2. Then, the body 2 engaged with the chip end 4 is sintered at 1,500-2,000 deg.C. The binder is decomposed by this sintering, the ceramic is shrinked, and the chip end 4 is strongly gripped by the shrinking force at this time. Accordingly, the end 4 is effectively fixed to the end of the body 2. The formed body 8 thus obtained is polished in the shape shown by a dotted line to cut off the periphery, thereby obtaining a capillary chip 1.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent connection losses by inserting and fixing the fiber end into a cap of a material of high hardness then polishing the end face, mounting the same to a sleeve of the same material of the cap and opposedly connecting these. CONSTITUTION:The end of an optical fiber to be connected is inserted and fixed into the precision bore of a size approximate to the diameter of the fiber of a cap (a) comprising a material (quartz, crystal, alumina single crystal or the like) of >=7 deg. Morse hardness. After the surface of said end is polished, it is mounted to a sleeve (b) fitting to the cap (a) of the same material as that of the cap (a) and the polished end surfaces of the fibers are opposed face to face, thereby the fibers are connected. Since the cap (a) of materials of >=7 deg. Morse hardness is used, polishing is finished to high accuracy and further the abrasion during use is less and this makes it possible to prevent the occurrence of connection losses.
