    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical modulator capable of accurately modulating optical parameters of light which is made incident as light to be modulated. SOLUTION: An optical modulator 1 comprises an optical modulator 20 which modulates a 1st optical parameter of light to be modulated which is made incident through a light guide part 10, a modulation quantity indication part 15 which indicates a desired modulation quantity for the optical modulator 20, a modulation quantity evaluation part 30 which evaluates an effective modulation quantity of the optical modulator 20, and a control arithmetic part 21 and a modulation control part 22 which control the operation for modulating the light to be modulated by the optical modulator 20. The control arithmetic part 21 calculates a control condition suitable to a modulation quantity of the 1st optical parameter by the optical modulator 20 so that the effective modulation quantity becomes equal to the desired modulation quantity. The modulation control part 22 controls the modulating operation of the optical modulator 20 according to the control condition inputted from the control arithmetic part 21.
