    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and rapidly exchange/move seedling boxes at a minimum of effort, to solve problems related to the above, and to deal with high-speed transplantation brought about by recent improvement on machines and techniques for the transplantation.
      SOLUTION: In a transplanter, a longitudinal seedling box transport mechanism 3 on which two or more seedling boxes are mounted is positioned at the rear part of the transplanter. The longitudinal seedling box transport mechanism 3 transports the seedling box in the direction of travelling of the transplanter by a distance greater than a depth L of the seedling box by one process, and then the seedling box is moved to a horizontal seedling box transport mechanism 4. Two or more seedling boxes are horizontally transported by being interlocked with each other. The horizontal seedling box transport mechanism 4 holds two or more seedling boxes thereon and is positioned at the rear of a seedling supply conveyor 2 for transporting seedlings with soil, such as seedlings in paper tubes. The horizontal seedling box transport mechanism makes each of the seedling boxes face an operator, horizontally transports the box to a place suitable for a working position of the operator, and stops the box. When outermost seedling box among two or more seedling boxes is horizontally transported, the seedling boxes are mutually pushed and then horizontally transported by being interlocked with each other. Thus, a time required for operations of exchanging/moving the seedling boxes in a transplanting operation is saved, and such a problem that the transplanter is required to decrease it travelling speed or to suspend its travelling, for the purpose of improving unevenness of intervals of the transplanted seedlings and avoiding miss-transplanted points of the seedlings, is solved.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector for the row seedling width designed to accurately detect the width of each row seedling of a connected seedling group P even when corner parts of the connected seedling group P are greatly deficient.
      SOLUTION: The detector for the row seedling width is equipped with (i) a pair of length measuring arms 11 and 11' axially supporting base ends 11c and 11c' so as to freely rotate, (ii) springs 14 and 14' urging the length measuring arms 11 and 11' in the direction to close the arms, (iii) length measuring arm extending rods 18 and 18' having base ends located oppositely to the length measuring arms 11 and 11' and tips kept freely slidable in a state thereof directed to the side of a row seedling separating mechanism D and supported, (iv) potentiometers 17 and 17' detecting the rotation angle of the length measuring arms 11 and 11' and (v) an operation part detecting a signal from the potentiometers 17 and 17' and computing the width of each row seedling Pn sandwiched between the tips 11b and 11b' of the length measuring arms 11 and 11'. The pair of the length measuring arms 11 and 11' have the tips 11b and 11b' kept in a mutually opposite state and arranged left and right in the transporting direction of a transporting mechanism B for connected seedling group. The length measuring arm extending rods 18 and 18' are urged in the direction of the row seedling separating mechanism D with springs 19 and 19'.
