    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice ball with a package employing a wide decoupling means facilitating package opening operations without spoiling packaging strength.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical film such as a half wave plate or a quarter wave plate used to improve the display qualities of various kinds of liquid crystal display such as TN (twisted nematic), STN (super twisted nematic) or VA (vertical alignment) display, at low cost by a melt extrusion film forming method.
      SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an optical film 5 is carried out by subjecting a thermoplastic resin film 5 extruded by a melt extrusion film forming method to cooling by a cooling roll 2 at a temperature of Tg±30°C, wherein Tg is the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic resin, and pulling the film by predetermined tension, in particular the tension giving ≤10% elongation of the film, so as to control the retardation of the film to 50 nm to 300 nm.
