    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that rapidly acts at high frequencies to temper combustion instability, but which provides a range of fuel pressure maintained within a predetermined range to modulate varying degrees of combustion instability.SOLUTION: A method of controlling combustion stability in a turbine engine includes the steps of: providing a pair of pulsating valves mutually arranged in parallel with respect to fuel flow provided to a combustor of the turbine engine; detecting an amplitude and frequency of a pressure wave of periodic combustion instability; selecting an amplitude, frequency and first phase shift, with respect to the pressure wave, of resultant fuel pulsations to reduce the amplitude of the pressure wave; translating the selected amplitude into a second, relative phase shift between respective pulsating valves 413a and 413b of the pair of pulsating valves; and commanding the respective pulsating valves 413a and 413b of the pair of pulsating valves to operate at the selected frequency and a relative second phase shift with respect to one another, to yield a resultant fuel pulsation at the selected amplitude, frequency and first phase shift, with respect to the detected pressure wave of combustion instability.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air assisted simplex fuel nozzle easy in an adjustment.
      SOLUTION: An air assisted simplex spray nozzle assembly for a fuel burner has a nozzle body 20 having the upstream end 22 and the downstream end 24, an air inlet 38 and an adapter member 30 engaging with the upstream end of the nozzle body and concentrically arranged for the nozzle assembly, and an air cap 40 arranged by covering the downstream end of the nozzle body. This nozzle assembly includes a fuel circuit and a first air circuit. The fuel circuit introduces fuel toward a fuel outlet of the nozzle body, and extends up to the fuel outlet by passing through the nozzle body from the fuel inlet of the adapter member. The first air circuit introduces assist air toward the fuel. The first air circuit extends by passing through a clearance 42 between an air cap and the nozzle body from the air inlet of the adapter member, and merges with the fuel discharged from the nozzle body. The assist air is supplied to the first air circuit by an auxiliary pump.
