    • PURPOSE:To prevent the increase in the transmission loss of optical fibers at both ends of coated optical fiber ribbons housed within the slots of the optical cable by specifying the width and height of the coated optical fiber ribbons each having a U-shaped sectional shape to be respectively specific values. CONSTITUTION:The coated optical fiber ribbon 11 is constituted by arraying plural pieces of the optical fibers 2 to a U shape so as to have >=2mm width W thereof and >=0.3mm height H from the uppermost part to the lowermost part thereof and coating the surface with an integral coating layer 3. The optical cable 12 is constituted by superposing plural sheets of the coated optical fiber ribbons 11 and housing these fiber ribbons into the slits 14 which are provided on the outer periphery of a spacer 13 and have the U-shaped section. The coated optical fiber ribbons 11 are deformed to the inner side of the slots 14 and stresses are absorbed even if the ends of the coated optical fiber ribbons 11 are pressed to the side walls 14a, 14b of the slots 14. Then, the optical fiber elements 2 existing at the ends of the coated optical fiber ribbons 11 are prevented from directly receiving side pressures.

    • PURPOSE: To remove off-axis contrast and color slippage at the time of off-axis observation and to remove a parallax on a touch screen by adopting specific flat panel multi-layer structure. CONSTITUTION: The multi-layer structure of a flat panel LCD screen 80 includes one layer 74. Since the layer 74 is a specially designed and manufactured glass material and has both the characteristics of an optical fiber and a polarizer, the layer 74 called as a polarized optical fiber layer. The layer 74 in the structure 80 is used instead of conventional analyzer layer, upper glass layer and optical fiber layer and the layer 74 acting as an optical fiber material transfers an LCD image from an LC layer to the upper surface of the layer 74. Since an image is observed at a fixed visual angle (visual line 38) of 90 deg., a fixed 90 deg. angle of view is shown on the surface of the optical fiber and the observation of 90 deg. can be attained by a user also at the time of observing the layer 74 at an off-axis angle.

    • PURPOSE:To surely prohibit the action of unnecessary stresses on optical fibers and to effectively assure the optical characteristics of the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:This optical fiber array has a substrate 22 and a retaining member 24 and this substrate 22 is provided with plural V-grooves 30 for arraying and housing the plural optical fibers 28 on its one plane part 26. This retaining member 24 is joined to one plane part 26 and holds the optical fibers 28 in the V-grooves 30. The size of the V-grooves 30 is so set that the entire part of the outer peripheral surfaces of the optical fibers 28 is housed into the aperture formed of the virtual plane S continuous with the one plane part 26 and the V-grooves 30.
