摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize an intake device by connecting intake ducts from second and third cylinders to two upper connecting portions, respectively, while connecting intake ducts from first and fourth cylinders to two lower connecting portions, respectively, in a surge tank to which the four intake ducts for a four-cylinder internal combustion engine are connected. SOLUTION: Four connecting portions 21-24 are arranged at one side face 13b of a surge tank 13 in a rectangular form being longer in a vertical direction. Intake ducts 15-18 are curved from respective cylinders A1-A4 toward the side face 13b. Thereafter, the intake ducts 15, 18 are connected to the lower connecting portions 21, 24, respectively; while the intake ducts 16, 17 are connected to the upper connecting portions 22, 23, respectively. Consequently, it is possible to increase a gap dimension in a vertical direction between the upper connecting portions 22, 23 and the lower connecting portions 21, 24, and further, to avoid intake pulses of the cylinders A1 and A4 from interfering with each other inside the surge tank 13 even if a gap dimension between the connecting portions 21 and 24 is decreased.

摘要： PURPOSE: To heighten a torque limit obtained in lean-burn while reducing NOx , and expand a lean-burn area by arranging a low speed type intake air device by which intake air filling efficiency is heightened in a low speed area, and arranging a catalytic device having NOx purifying performance even in the lean air-fuel ratio. CONSTITUTION: The air-fuel ratio in a low speed load area of at least an engine is set in the prescribed air-fuel ratio which is leaner by a prescribed quantity than the theoretical air-fuel ratio and by which an NOx rate in exhaust gas is sufficiently reduced and a torque change becomes an allowable value or less. On the engine high load side, the air-fuel ratio is set in the theoretical air-fuel ratio or on the richer side than that. In this case, a low speed type intake air device which has a first instake air port 3 to generate a vortical flow and a second intake air port 4 having an opening-closing valve 41 closed at low speed time and by which intake air filling efficiency is heightened in a low speed area, is provided. An exhaust emission control device (a catalytic device) 61 having excellent NOx purifying performance even in the lean air-fuel ratio is provided in an exhaust system.

摘要： PURPOSE: To promote a minimal external improvement and a low level maintenance by extending a first series intake passage up to an adjacent surgetank from one of eight cylinders and a second series intake passage up to the adjacent surge tank from the first number cylinder, respectively. CONSTITUTION: A long first intake passage 118 and a short second intake passage 120 inclusive of a cylinder head's intake passage are connected to each of nine cylinder bores 51 to 58. This short second intake passage 120 is extended up to an adjacent surge tank 48 or 50 from each cylinder of these cylinder bores 51 to 58. A side of the long first intake passage 118 comes to a set of groups, and some of which among them are extended up to the surge tank 48 or 50 being set up on another cylinder bank from these cylinder bores 51 to 58. In addition, the surge tank 48 or 50 to be supplied to the first intake passage 118 of respective cylinder bores is replaced, whereby two ignition cylinders being adjoined with each other are made so as not to get out of the same surge tank.
