    • PURPOSE:To shorten the whole height and longitudinal size of an engine by arranging the main spindle of a transmission on an output shaft arranged above a crank shaft, and arranging the output shaft on the opposite side to a differential device across the crank shaft. CONSTITUTION:The rotation of a crank shaft 26 arranged in the car width direction of an engine 22A is transferred to a transmission 68A and a differential device 80. An output shaft 34 rotated integrally with the crank shaft 26 is arranged in parallel with the crank shaft 26 on the opposite side to the differential device 80 across the crank shaft 26. The main spindle 70 of a clutch 72A and the transmission 68A is arranged on the center line of the output shaft 34, and the clutch 72A is overlapped on the crank shaft 26 in the side view. The crank shaft 26 is arranged below the center of the output shaft 34 and differential device 80. The clutch 72A is prevented from being protruded downward from the engine 22A. The crank shaft 26 is located near the differential device 80, and the output shaft 34 near the crank shaft 26 respectively.

    • PURPOSE:To keep a balance of each cylinder well with one counter weight by forming a pair of crank arms to hold a crank pin with a disc uniform in the weight distribution in the peripheral direction for one crank arm and a counter weight not uniform in the weight distribution in the peripheral direction for the other crank arm. CONSTITUTION:Crank arms 16A, 16D, 16E, 16H, 16L are formed with discs and 16I makes an output takeoff gear, and each of them is uniform in the weight distribution, and other crank arms 16B, 16C, 16F, 16G, 16J are usual counterweights. Each cylinder is corresponded by one each of discs 16A, 16D, 16E, 16H, 16L, gear 16I and counterweights 16B, 16C, 16F, 16G, 16J. The balance of reciprocating movement of each cylinder is kept by the counterweights 16B, 16C, 16F, 16G, 16J, and each cylinder is balanced by one disc (or gear) and one counterweight. Accordingly, it is possible to keep the balance of all cylinders well under the same condition.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of noise between gears by improving the rigidity of a bearing part by axially supporting a crankshaft and an output taking-out shaft integrally with an upper half body and a lower half body. CONSTITUTION:An engine unit 4 is equipped with a crankshaft 6 having an output gear 28 and an output taking-out shaft 16 having a gear 29 meshed with the gear 28 and a flywheel 45. A bearing part which axially sopports the crankshaft 6 and the output taking-out shaft 16 is constituted of an upper half body 70 which is formed integrally with a crankcase 7a and a lower half body 8, and the upper half body 70 and the lower half body 8 axially support the crankshaft 6 and the output taking-out shaft 16 integrally, respectively. Therefore, the rigidity of a bearing part increases, and even if a large stress acts onto the bearing part of the crankshaft 6 or the output taking-out shaft 16, generation of position deflection between the both is suppressed, and the variation of the backlash which is supplied onto gears 28, 29 can be suppressed.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent poor oil supply at the time of rapid acceleration and deceleration by partitioning an oil pan into two rooms, right and left, installing two discharge pumps, and opening hydraulic passages which are arranged in series to respective pumps in the oil pan at both the sides of a partitioning wall. CONSTITUTION:A crank shaft is jouralled between a cylinder block (not illustrated) and a bearing case connected in series to the lower surface of the cylinder block, and an oil pan 14 is connected in series to the lower surface of the bearing case, and a crank shaft is formed to gather oil by the said three components. An oil tank (not illustrated) is also connected to the oil pan 14, and they are partitioned by the walls which are provided with horizontal and vertical ribs 14b, 14c in the oil pan 14. Moreover, a partitioning wall 14d is installed approximately parallel to the driving direction of a vehicle on the bottom of the oil pan 14 to partition the inside of the oil pan 14 into two rooms A1, A2, and oil introducing parts 14e, 14f are formed adjacent to the partitioning wall 14d in the respective oil cases A1, A2 to arrange in series the suctions of the two discharge pumps (not illustrated).

    • PURPOSE:To miniaturize the size of an engine by arranging a crank shaft and an output shaft in parallel to an axle shaft in order and making a cylinder slantly upward to the axle shaft while specifying the positional relation among the crank shaft, output shaft and the cylinder axis. CONSTITUTION:The cylinder row of an engine is made to be slant backward to a vehicle in the vertical direction so as to cover the upper part of a front axle 2, an output shaft 6 is provided to be in parallel to a crank shaft 6, with the crank shaft 6 and output shaft 16 arranged in order, in parallel to the front axle 2. The output shaft 16 is arranged slantly upward to the crank shaft 6 in such a way that the angle theta between a cylinder axis L1 and a line L2 connecting the output shaft 6 with the crank shaft 6 is made into an acute angle. On the upper of a plane M passing through the center of the crank and crossing the cylinder axis L1, there are positioned the output shaft and the front axle 2. Thus, it is possible to shorten a distance between the output shaft 16 and the front axle 2 so as to reduce the engine size in the vehicular lateral direction.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a compact intake device which can cope with both low and high engine speed by inverting upper stream of the throttling valve of an intake tube order to be communicated with an intake manifold,and providing an expansion chamber communicated with the inverting section through a switching valve. CONSTITUTION:An intake tube 6 is independently provided to be communicated with each cylinder 5, and largely inverted on the upper stream of a throttling valve 10 in order to be communicated with an intake manifold 9 as an intake tube 8c in the opposite direction. In an inverting section 8b, an expansion chamber 12 is communicated with the extended part of the intake tube 6 through a switching valve 16. The switching valve 16 is closed at low engine speed so as to match the length of the intake tube to intake pulse at low speed, and is opened at high speed so as to shorten the practical length of the tube of intake pulse. Since the expansion chamber is arranged in the inverting section 8b and intake tube passage is inverted, the whole unit is made compact.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain compactness of an engine further reduce its noise, by providing a pipe branching from a long pipe, curved corresponding to an intake pulsation when the engine is at a low speed, and arranging said former pipe, equipped with a valve opened when the engine is at a high speed, to be extended in a reverse direction to said curved direction while providing a distributor box in the end of each pipe. CONSTITUTION:An intake pipe 19, having a pipe length corresponding to an intake pulsation when an engine is at a low speed, is curved in a flection part 17 in a reverse direction to that of an intake pipe 15, and the intake pipe 19 is equipped in its end with a distributor box 18. The engine, providing in an extending direction of the intake pipe 15 a pipe 21 equipped with a valve 23 opened when the engine is at a high speed, arranges a distributor box 20 in the end of the pipe 21. When the engine is at a high speed, a control unit 31, actuating a selector valve 29 and introducing negative pressure in a negative pressure chamber 27 to the chamber of a diaphragm 28 to open the valve 23, provides a pipe length corresponding to that in the time of high speed operation. In this way, the distributor boxes 18, 20, being arranged before and after the engine main unit 1, can form noise shielding parts in both directions, further the engine, arranging the distributor boxes to be divided into the front and the rear, obtains compactness.

A gear 30, provided in the output takeout shaft 16, is connected to a gear 32 of the intermediate shaft 31 through the first chain 33 which is a hung-winding transmitting means, while a gear 34, provided in the intermediate shaft 31, is connected to a gear 38 of a cam shaft 37 in a valve mechanism 36 through the second chain 35.
