    • PURPOSE:To attain read-out of the data recorded to the entire recording area excluding the faulty parts by using selectively the most outer or inner circumferential track as a start position. CONSTITUTION:A start position changeover switch 16 is set to put an outer guard band detecting circuit 13 under an action inhibiting mode. While an inner guard band detecting circuit 14 is put under an action mode to perform a disk loading action. This action is different from the normal one and no position control is carried out in an outer guard band. The position control is performed after a head moves up to the most inner guard band. The head is stopped on the most inner circumferential track, and this track is set to a reference counter 19. Thus a magnetic disk can be loaded despite the destruction of the most outer circumferential servo signal. Then all data excluding the destructed areas can be read out.
