    • PURPOSE:To reduce the high damping performance deterioration by heating the faces to be welded by a gas burner to burn up resin, then, inserting a spacer into a part where the resin existed or tack-welding plural steel sheets to secure the space and performing welding. CONSTITUTION:The resin to the extent that it is dissolved and evaporated by arc welding heat is burnt up and then, welding is performed. The spacer 3 is inserted continuously and intermittently into the position where the resin existed for shrinkage of a weld zone or tack-welding 4 is performed continuously or intermittently and the space where a resin layer 2 existed is secured and welding is performed. Metal or nonmetal, for instance, a ceramic thin plate which resists shrinkage at the time of welding and does not produce gas can be used as the spacer. Further, in order to prevent the flow of resin to the weld zone, one layer welding is desirable. By this method, welding can be easily applied to the manufacture of a structure utilizing the high damping steel sheets and the large-sized structure can be manufactured.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of weld defects due to drop-down of molten metal by abutting materials to be welded of thick steel plates on each other at a specified interval and arranging backing materials at an specified interval on the rear sides thereof to perform upward electron beam welding at the vertical position. CONSTITUTION:The two materials 1 to be welded of thick steel plates are abutted on each other and the interval between the abutting surfaces thereof is made to 0.3-1.2mm. Further, the backing materials 2 are arranged on the rear sides thereof and 0.3-4mm gap 8 is provided at the interval with the materials 1 to be welded. In this state, the materials 1 to be welded are irradiat ed with an electron beam from the arrow 6 direction and the molten metal 3 is formed and the materials 1 to be welded are subjected to upward welding at the vertical position. By this method, the molten metal 4 is prevented from dropping down to prevent the occurrence of the weld defects and the occurrence of blowhole defects of the penetration tip 7 is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent contact of a ceramic material with oxide in a cast billet and to extend the service life of the ceramic in continuous casting for metal by sealing gap part developed between the cast billet, which is solidified and shrunk in a mold lining the ceramic, and the mold by using non-oxidizing gas. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal is poured into the copper mold 11 lined by the ceramic 2 and the mold 1 is water-cooled from the outer surface to cool the ceramic 2 contacting with the mold 1. The gap developed between the ceramic 2 and the coagulated and solidified cast billet, is sealed with non- oxidizing gas of N2, Ar, etc., to prevent oxidation of the cast billet. As method of sealing, the non-oxidizing gas can be blow in the gap from gas blowing holes 10 fitted near the outlet side of the mold as showing in the figure. As a result, extension of the service life for the ceramic, improvements of casting efficiency and casting yield, etc., can be obtd.
