CONSTITUTION:A wall-thickness controlling-quantity arithmetic device 7 compares a set wall-thickness value tS1 with the output signal value t1 of an inlet- side wall thickness gauge 9 to output a signal corresponding to the deviation value DELTAt1 obtained by said comparison. A roll-gap control device 4 and a plug- position control device 5 control a roll opening E and a plug-3-position respectively. In the same manner, an arithmetic device 8 of wall-thickness control quantity of outlet side, outputs the deviation value DELTAt2 of the wall thickness t2 of outlet side. The devices 4 and 5 correct the roll gap E and the plug position respectively based on the signal of deviation value DELTAt2. Because of the extremely high accuracies of electromagnetic-ultrasonic type wall-thickness gauges 9, 10, the wall thickness is controlled highly accurately.

    • PURPOSE:To facilitate balancing and stabilize subsequent operations by detecting the peak value of an ultrasonic wave signal generated by an elastic wave without synchronous detection. CONSTITUTION:A pulse current ep is supplied from a pulse current generating circuit 5 to transmitting coils 3a1 and 3a2 and an elastic wave signal generated in a body 6 to be detected is detected by receiving coils 3b and 3c to obtain ultrasonic wave signals ed and eg of a normal and a defective part through amplifiers 11a and 11b. Only the 1st transmitted waves of both signals ed and eg are extracted by gate circuits 12a and 12b by the gate signal (g) of a control signal generating circuit 13 which synchronizes with the circuit 5, and peak detection and holding are performed by peak detectors 14a and 14b. Peak detected values edp and edp are supplied to a subtracting circuit 15 to obtain their difference signal, which is sampled and held by a sample holding circuit 15 with the sampling signal (s) from the circuit 13, thereby generating an output h0. Thus, balancing is facilitated because of the peak value detection and stability is obtained.

      CONSTITUTION: A driving truck 12 of the electromagnetic ultrasonic measuring device is attracted to a material 7 to be examined by the attraction of an attracting DC electromagnet. The driving truck 12 is operated by a control panel 26 on the ground to measure automatically the thickness of the material 7 to be examined. An antenna sensor 36 is provided at the front end of the driving truck 12, and such control is possible that the driving truck is turned automatically when it senses an obstacle 35.

CONSTITUTION:A transmitting an receiving coil 17 is mounted to a one leg, i.e., a leg 3 of a core 5, formed in a U-shape in cross section, of which a DC electromagnet consists, and a DC exciting coil 6 is wound around the leg 3, whereto the transmitting and receiving coil 7 is attached, in the proximity of the transmitting and receiving coil 7. A conventional device, in which the DC exciting coil 6 is located to a yoke 5, needs 6000 AT in order to generate a magnetic field of 2 Tesla, meanwhile, if the DC exciting coil 6 is mounted to the leg 3 of the core whereto the transmitting and receiving coil is attached, a magnetic flux density of 2 Tesla is generated by a magnetomotive force of 4000 AT. That is, a similar magnetic field is produced by an electromotive force mu of the DC exciting coil 6 being 67% (=4000/6000) of that of the conventional device and a calorific value H being 44%[=(4000/6000) ]of that of the conventional device. The weight of the DC exciting coil is determined by the calorific value, the weight of the DC exciting coil is reduced to about 44%, the miniaturization and lightening of the DC exciting coil also miniaturizes a core part around which the DC exciting coil is wound, which results in permitting the reduction in weight by about 50% on the whole.

On the contrary, when the transfer speed decreases to not within said range by said electromagnetic brake, on the basis of then compared signal, the controller 16 inverts the operating direction of a thyristor 15 to demagnetize residual magnetism of the steel pipe by a prescribed reverse current and automatically release the electromagnetic brake.

    • PURPOSE:To detect the seam of a steel pipe or the like with high accuracy, by providing a first -shaped core generating magnetic flux at a right angle to the welded part of a material to be examined and a second -shaped core generating magnetic flux in the longitudinal direction of the welded portion. CONSTITUTION:One 30 of the -shaped megnet cores is put in parallel with the longitudinal direction of a steel pipe 20, while the other -shaped magnet core 40 is arranged in the diametral direction of the steel pipe 20; both of the -shaped cores are arranged in an L-shaped form. The primary winding P is made on two of the cores attached to each other, while the second winding SR is made on the leg 31 of the core 30 and the second winding SC is made on the leg 41 of the core 40. Hence the primary winding P is driven by AC and voltage is induced to each of the secondary windings SC, SR. When these cores are installed on a seamless steel pipe in such a way that the difference between SC and SR is reduced to zero, a detection signal can be obtained when they are installed on the seam part. By amplifying the signal, the seam part can be detected effectively.
