    • PURPOSE:To improve the yield of mass production, by forming a notched groove to be exclusively used for fitting and holding a magnetic head chip so as to have a gap enabling a bonding layer to be formed between the magnetic head chip and the notched groove of the magnetic head base. CONSTITUTION:The head chip fitting and holding notched groove 7, a tape sliding surface 9, the leading end 10 of a winding, a resin bonding agent 11, the bottom reference surface 12 of a head base plate 1 are formed. The measurements l indicates the distance from the bottom reference surface 12 of the head base plate 1 to the back end 10 of an operation gap and the measurements d indicates the distance from the tape sliding surface 9 to the approximate center of the leading end part of the head base plate 1, i.e. the depth of the operation gap. The notched groove 7 to fit and hold the head chip in the direction of an arrow is formed on the approximate center of the leading end part of the head base plate 1 in parallel with the thickness direction of the head base plate 1 or with a required angle theta from the thickness direction.

    • PURPOSE:To produce a thin film magnetic head with high yield, by providing a groove fill with a nonmagnetic matter at a part of the surface touching a magnetic layer of a nonmagetic substrate and cutting a V-shaped groove with a depth reaching the nonmagnetic matter to divide the magnetic layer into two parts. CONSTITUTION:A groove 10 is formed to a surface of a substrate 1 made of glass or ceramic, and then a layer of a nonmagnetic matter 11 of Al2O3, etc. is formed on the substrate 1 by a sputtering process, etc. with such a thickness that fills the groove 10. The layer of the matter 11 is polished, and a magnetic layer 2 is formed on the matter 11. Then a V-shaped groove 6 is formed with a depth reaching the matter 11 to divide the layer 2 into two parts. A nonmagnetic layer 3 and a magnetic layer 4 are formed on the groove 6, and a groove is formed to divide the layer 4 into two parts. A protecting nonmagnetic layer 5 is formed on the layer 4. Thus a thin film magnetic head is obtained. When the groove 6 is formed, no damage is given to the substrate 1 although the matter 11 has breaks or cracks. This improves the yield of production.

    • PURPOSE:To manufacture a magnetic head having an azimuth angle and also a stable working gap which is free from shift of a track, by making the junction surface of a nonmagnetic material and a magnetic material orthogonal to the working gap, and also inclining this junction surface to the direction of a tape by the azimuth angle of the working gap. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head block is prepared so that a working gap 5 is made orthogonal to junction surfaces 7a, 7b of sendast thin films 2a, 2b and nonmagnetic materials 4a, 4b, and the junction surfaces 7a, 7b coincide with the moving direction T-T' of a tape. Subsequantly, the magnetic head block 8 is mounted on a cutting jig 9 whose upper surface has been inclined by an azimuth angle theta against the bottom surface, and the magnetic head block 8 is cut by surfaces A-A', B-B' being in parallel with the bottom surface of the cutting jig 9, by which a magnetic head is obtained. This magnetic head becomes a magneric head provided with an azimuth, which has a stable working gap 5 free from shift to a track.

    • PURPOSE:To give the magnetic gap of high reliability and lamination effect to the magnetic head, by providing one or a plurality of grooves or cavities with the part excluding the vicinity of the magnetic gap of the magnetic substance core constituting the magnetic circuit. CONSTITUTION:The grooves 8a, 8b are cut off on the two magnetic substance cores 6a, 6b from the head sides 7a, 7b respectively. The part near the magnetic gap 2 of the cores 6a, 6b is kept the same as bulk core. Thus, the gap forming technique such as the sputtering or metal deposition having high reliability can be used. On the other hand, the surface area is increased for the other part with the grooves 8a, 8b. Since the path of magnetic flux due to eddy current loss is limited around the core surface, this increase in the surface area means the increase in the effective cross sectional area through which magnetic flux can flow, allowing to avoid the eddy current loss at high frequencies and heat dissipation due to it, resulting in increasing the recording and reproducing efficiency.
