    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device capable of having the function to prevent the reversing of an engine without reducing the load driving performance of a generator when the engine runs at a low speed. SOLUTION: A voltage comparator CP output of which becomes a zero level and a high level respectively when a magneto coil 1 generates a positive half-wave output voltage and when the magneto coil generates a negative half- wave output voltage, and a transistor TR3 which conducts when output of the comparator CP is at a high level, to prevent output of a signal coil 2 from being given to a CPU 5, are provided. When the engine is forward operated, and when the transistor TR3 is shut-off, the CPU allows the signal coil 2 to generate a signal to perform igniting operation successfully. When the engine is reversely operated and the transistor TR3 is in a state of electrical continuity, the CPU allows the signal coil 2 to generate a signal to prevent output of the signal coil from being given to the CPU, and thus to stop the igniting operation.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve ignitability to a mixture and to prevent a misfire caused by the fouling of a plug by switching-driving a switching element continuously a plurality of times to generate spark discharge to a spark plug continuously a plurality of times at the combustion timing of one combusiton cycle of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: At the time of operating an engine, a control signal generated by an ECU so as to generate spark discharge to a spark plug 13 continuously a plurality of times is impressed to a transistor 17 which is a switching element, to switch-drive it. With the 'on' operation of the transistor 17, a primary current flows to a primary coil of an ignition coil, and the primary current is cut off by the succeeding 'off' operation. High voltage is thereby generated to a secondary coil of the ignition coil to generate spark discharge at the spark plug 13. Such operations are repeated a plurality of times, and multiple discharge is generated by recarrying the primary current before the natural termination of spark discharge. A mixture is thereby ignited positively.
