    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water absorption resin having a high balance between high water absorption performance and a water absorption rate and a manufacturing method which can simply produce the water absorption resin by an inexpensive method.
      SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the water absorption resin in the form of particles having a size of not smaller than 100 μm having carboxyl groups neutralized with two or more kinds including ammonia and an alkali metal and a ratio of the alkali metal to carbons in the water absorption resin at a depth from the surface layer of less than 40 μm of more than 0.02 and a ratio of that at a depth from the surface layer of not less than 40 μm of not more than 0.02, the water absorption resin containing carboxyl groups neutralized with ammonia is sprayed or impregnated with or dipped in an alcohol solution containing an alkali metal ion and water to ion-exchange the surface of the water absorption resin, and thereafter the ion-exchanged water absorption resin is dried.
