    • PURPOSE: To allow a supervisory side to observe an image with excellent image quality by not transferring audio data when data in a recording medium are transferred in the case of fast feed reproduction but by sending data in a format thinning out only image data at a prescribed interval. CONSTITUTION: When a fast feed reproduction request is made from a supervisory side to a supervised side, a recorder 14 in which audio data and image data recorded by the supervised side are recorded is accessed. The supervised side resets the audio mode so as not to transfer the audio data and transfers the image data in the QCIF format where the image data are thinned out at a prescribed interval. When the transmission speed of 48kbps is used for the audio mode, for example, since the data transfer quantity is shared for video signals, a video rate is increased by 60 to 70% in the case of an ISDN line whose transmission speed is 128kbps. As a result, excellent image quality is obtained and a smooth video image as a multiple of four is obtained by the QCIF format.

    • PURPOSE:To receive a call as an automatic answering message of an opposite party called by a caller even when a telephone call is made during absence by retrieving the relevant automatic answering message stored in advance and transmitting it to the caller when a caller number is received from the caller. CONSTITUTION:When a call comes from the caller, it is transmitted to an opposite side terminal by an ISDN network 6 while adding the caller number. It is detected by a detecting means 3 whether or not a call comes and when the call comes and the opposite side terminal is absent, the received caller number is read for outputting the automatic answering message to that caller. With this caller number as a retrieval key, the previously stored automatic answering message corresponding to that caller number is retrieved by a retrieving means 9. The automatic answering message is read from a video data storage means 7 and a sound data storage means 8 and transmitted through the ISDN network 6 to the caller by an output means 4. Afterwards, the message of the opposite party is sound recorded or video recorded. As a result, even when the opposite party of a telephone is absent, the call can be received as the automatic answering message.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber amplifier which controls gain to be constant at high speed and permit the control without generating level fluctuation of existing channels, in the case that change of the number of channels is generated which is caused by switchover of optical paths, increase of systems, troubles, etc., in a WDM transmission system. SOLUTION: This optical fiber amplifier is provided with a first feedback loop which so controls quantity of pumping light of a light source for pumping that the output value from an output signal light detecting means follows the output value from an input signal light detecting means, and an observing device 12 which estimates all the input signal light level of input signal light from a driving signal of the light source for pumping and an output value of the output signal light detecting means. In the optical fiber amplifier, a second feedback loop which feedbacks an output of the observing device 12 to the driving signal of the light source for pumping is constituted.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with splicing to simplify manufacturing of an optical fiber coupler, by a method wherein the end surfaces of an optical fiber and a rare earth-added fiber are previously connected by fusion with each other, a plurality of the optical and rare earth-added fibers are prepared, the positions of the connected parts of the optical and rare earth-added fibers by fusion are aligned with each other and the optical and rare earth-added fibers are aligned with each other and are heated, fused and stretched. SOLUTION: A single-mode optical fiber 1 with its protective film peeled at the end surface, and a rare earth-added fiber 4 with a protective film similarly peeled at the end surface, are prepared and a plurality of the fibers 1 and 4 with the end surfaces connected with each other by fusing are prepared. Then, the positions of the parts of the connected parts 2 of the fibers 1 and 4 connected with each other by fusing are aligned with each other and the fibers 1 and 4 are aligned with each other and are heated, fused and stretched. In such a way, an optical fiber coupler is manufactured. That is, the side on one of the sides of a fusion stretched part 3 consists of the normal optical fibers 1 and the other side of the part 3 consists of the fibers 4. As a result, the optical fiber coupler of a structure, wherein the part 3 is located on the sides of the fibers 4 and the parts 2 exist in the vicinity of the part 3, can be obtained. After the fibers 1 and 4 are heated, fused and stretched, the coupler is mounted and fixed on a substrate by prescribed processes.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the temperature of a semiconductor laser to be maintained at a specific value even if the environmental temperature fluctuation is notable by a method wherein the output of the second sensor is added to the inside of a feedback loop as a feed forward signal so as to make the temperature of the semiconductor laser approach to a target temperature. SOLUTION: The temperature of a semiconductor laser 4 detected by a thermistor 5 is compared with the target temperature 1 by a comparator 2 so as to drive a Peltier element 3. At this time, the feedback control is repeated according to the temperature detected by the thermistor 5 to be operated for making the temperature of the thermistor 5 coincide with the target temperature 1. Furthermore, the environmental temperature is detected by an environmental temperature sensor 6 to compare the difference between the target temperature 1 and the environmental temperature by another comparator 7 for adding the difference to an adder 8 thereby enabling the fluctuation in the environmental temperature to be cancelled. Accordingly, even if the environmental temperature is notably fluctuated, the target temperature 1 can be made coincide with the thermistor temperature thereby enabling the precise temperature control to be made feasible.
