    • PURPOSE:To enable highly accurate and stable measurement, by varying impedance detected when a flux-filled wire (FW) is passed through a coil. CONSTITUTION:When a metal wire is put into a coil through which AC current flows, a sort of induced current call as eddy current is generated. This eddy current changes depending not only on the level of the current applied to the coil but also on discontinuous portions of metal and variations in the shape of a sample when the current is constant. Utilizing the nature of the eddy current, changes in the thickness of skin metal can be caught as variations in the impedance (IP). So, first, FW carried with a reference thickness is inserted into a specified coil to measure IP at a specified frequency. Then, FW to be measured is measured on the same condition as the preceding one and the resulting IP is compared with a reference IP. Thus, the thickness at the part measured is judged and moreover very accurate calculation of the ratio of the flux can be done from the unit weight of skin metal at the measured part and the total weight per unit of the wire at the measured part.

The welding current flows to the roller 10 without spreading too much like I2 or I2b and therefore no magnetism is generated on the upstream of the part in contact with the steel strip, and the bridging by the flux in the weld zone P is prevented. The wire having no defect, etc. is thus obtd.

On the other hand, the feeding out rate of the flux (the current value of the mass) Mfa which is supplied currently onto the wire 2a from the feeding out part 8a of an electromagnetic feeder 8 is measured and is fed at all times to the device 7. The arithmetic processing of (Mfa-Mfk) is performed in the device 7 to determine a deviation value + or -DELTAMf, and the supply rate of the flux from the feeder 8 is so controlled as to maintain the value DELTAMf within the prescribed value.

    • PURPOSE:To enable the production of a flux cored wire having high quality in the stage of producing the flux cored wire for welding, by packing a flux in band steel which is curved to a tubular shape, and sealing or brazing the butt parts on both side edges of the band steel with another band steel. CONSTITUTION:The band steel W-1 un-coiled from a spool 1 is formed to a tubular shape, and a flux F from a flux box 2 is packed into the butt parts of both edges from the non-contact part thereof. The band steel W-2 for sealing un-coiled from a spool 1' is superposed on the butt parts of the tubular band steel and is curved with a curving roll so as to enclose the flux cored band steel W-1. Such band steel is drawn with drawing dies 5a-5c down to a prescribed outside diameter. The butt parts of the flux cored tubular steel pipe may be sealed by brazing. The deterioration in the quality of the internal flux owing to the infiltration of moisture into the tubular band steel is obviated.
