Further, a movable blade position switch mechanism capable of moving a movable blade between an operating position and a retracted position is provided, the movable blade position switch mechanism being designed to change the position of the movable blade by means of a fourth stepping motor.

SOLUTION: A first resiliency urging member 40 urges an angular piece 51 downward by means of a swing link 31 so as to causes the angular piece 51 to abut against a lower side one of a pair of guide surfaces 53a of an engaging groove 53, and a second resiliently urging member 67 rotationally urges an adjuster body 52 so as to cause an engaging pin 61 to abut against an inner peripheral side one of a pair of cam surfaces 63a of a cam hole 63 so that the rotation urging moment by the second resiliently urging member 67 is set to be always larger than a rotational urging moment which is exerted to the adjuster body to the first resiliently urging member 55. With this arrangement, rattling of the angular piece 51 and the engaging pin 61 can surely prevented.

Then, the moving element 29 increases the pressure either one of a spring 33 and spring 35, and reduces the pressure of either one of the springs 33 and 35. Then, the spring 33 transmits the increase/decrease in the pressure to a tension disc 11, and imparts a tension to a thread which goes through an upper looper 7. By this method, strengthening and weakening adjustments can be performed by one looper tension, and the labor of a worker can be reduced.
