    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water splitting method and a water splitting device which can efficiently split water.SOLUTION: A water splitting device comprises a reaction tank 3 to which water is supplied. The reaction tank 3 is provided with microwave irradiation means 4 and ultraviolet irradiation means 5. In the reaction tank 3, microwaves are applied to the water by the microwave irradiation means 4 and ultraviolet rays are applied to the water by the ultraviolet irradiation means 5. When the microwaves are applied to water, covalent bonds and hydrogen bonds are brought into an excited state by the microwaves. In this excited state, when the ultraviolet rays are applied, an oxidation-reduction reaction is taken place to break the covalent bonds and hydrogen bonds, whereby water is split. Hydrogen generated by the splitting of water is recovered by hydrogen recovery means 6 and oxygen generated by the splitting of water is recovered by oxygen recovery means 7.
