    • PURPOSE:To prolong the service life of a rolling roll by setting the difference of hardness between a base material surface and a ceramic or cermet coat as a specified Shore hardness difference. CONSTITUTION:In manufacturing a composite rolling roll having a ceramic or cermet coat, the surface hardness of the base material of the roll is elevated at first by ion implantation or heat treatment such as quenching and tempering. Then, the ceramic or cermet coat is formed by the CVD method through gaseous phase reaction and surface reaction. In this case, the difference of hardness between the base material of the roll and the joint of the coat is set so that the Shore hardness does not exceed 30. When the Shore hardness difference does not exceed 30, a curve 1 of the number of rolling to start the peeling of coat rises and peels from the number 2 of rolling in the limit of usage of the roll. In this way, the composite roll is prevented from peeling from the coat, and the service life of the rolling roll is prolonged.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for feeding a solid lubricant which is applicable to a rolling mill having a very small roll region where the feed of a lubricant is required. SOLUTION: A 1st feeding device is provided with a solid lubricant feeding part in which a solid lubricant moving plate for pressing the solid lubricant against the lubricating surface of a roll and pulling back the lubricant, a driving force transmitting means for transmitting driving force for performing at least either pressing the lubricant against the solid lubricant moving plate or pulling back the lubricant and a driving device which is connected to the driving force transmitting device so that the driving force is transmitted to the driving force transmitting device. A 2nd feeding device is provided with a solid lubricant charging guide in which a piston is incorporated and with which the solid lubricant is charged, a driving force transmitting part for transmitting force by which the solid lubricant is pressed against the lubricating surface of the roll and pulled back from the surface and a driving device in which a pressurizing piston for pulling-back force on the driving force transmitting part is incorporated. This feeding method can be practiced by the above devices.
