CONSTITUTION:Rolls 4a, 4b in the molten metal 3 in a molting vessel 1 equipped a heating means 2 and also roll 4c in the air are arranged, and the bendable caterpillar plate 5 nicked grooves 5a, 5b by the prescribed pattern is suspended and turned as looping. Further, the rubbing plate 7 and a pushing plate 8, in which arrange water cooling cavities, are arranged at the drawing-out side of the caterpillar plate 5 from the molten metal surface 3a, to hold on the caterpillar plate 5. When the caterpillar plate 5 is shifted up as sliding between the rubbing plate 7 and the pushing plate 8, the molten metal filled up in the pattern grooves 5a, 5b is ascended and cooled as turning together with the caterpillar plate 5, and the thin plate metal 10 is continuously produced at high speed. Therefore, improvement of the productivity and also reduction of production cost are obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the intrusion of the solidified shell of a molten metal formed in the meniscus part into a steel ingot in the stage of producing a thin sheet-like steel ingot from the molten metal by two rotary drums by disposing heatint refractories to the molten metal meniscus part of the rotary drums and applying ultrasonic oscillation to the molten metal between the drums. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal 4 is supplied from a tundish 5 by an immersion nozzle 6 to the space formed of the internally water cooled rotary drums 1, 1' and stationary gates 2, 2' and the thin sheet-like steel ingot 3 is drawn out by rotating the drums 1, 1' backward. The refractories 9 which can be internally heated are disposed to the meniscus part of the molten metal in the above-mentioned space between both drums and the molten metal is stirred by an electromagnetic stirrer 8; at the same time, the ultrasonic oscillation is applied to the molten metal by an ultrasonic oscillator 10. The surface solidified shell is made hardly formable on the molten metal is the meniscus part by the presence of the heated refractories. Even if such shell is formed, the shell connects to the solidified shell formed on the surfaces of the drums 1, 1' and is no intruded into the thin sheet-like steel ingot. The quality of the steel ingot 3 is thus not affected by such solidified shell.

    • PURPOSE:To make easy the starting of casting and the restarting of casting after breakout by bringing drums into tight contact with each other prior to the start of casting then opening the space between the drums at a specified speed and adjusting the rotating speed of the drums upon starting of pouring. CONSTITUTION:The space between one water-cooled casting drum 1'' and the other water-cooled casting drum 1 is adjusted by an oil pressure, etc. The space quantity is measured by a sensor 15 and the measured displacement quantity is converted to an electric signal by a displacement converter 12. The relation between the space quantity and the displacement is controlled by a controller 13. The output is outputted by an output amplifier 14 and a driving source 10 is operated to control the rotation of the drums 1, 1''. The molten metal is therefore poured at a specified flow rate from a tundish and at the same time the drums open from the initial tight contact state and rotate to provide the prescribed space and rotating speed. The mass-balance with the molten metal supplied thereto is thus attained. The need for mounting a dummy bar to be used in the initial period is thereby eliminated and the recasting after the breakout is made possible.

    • PURPOSE:To permit the stable start of a continuous casting operation without a breakout accident in a twin drum type constinuous casting device by winding preliminarily thin sheets united to a dummy bar head on the cooling surfaces of two water cooling drums at the start of casting. CONSTITUTION:The thin steel sheets 9, 9' united to the dummy bar head 8 are wound around the cooling peripheral surfaces of the two water cooling drums 1, 1' prior to the start of casting and are pressed to the surfaces of the drums 1, 1' by plural hold-down rolls 10, 10 in the twin drum type continuous casting device consisting of said drums 1, 1'. A molten steel is poured from a tundish nozzle 6 into the casting space constituted of both drums and refractory gates 2, 2' provided to both end faces of the drums and both drums are rotated to produce the steel ingot while the head 8 is lowered. Since the sheets 9, 9' are wound around both drums, the solidified shell formed in the initial period of casting is washed by the molten steel poured into the casting space and the stable start of the continuous casting operation is made possible without generating the breakout.
